MILAN STUNNED AT HOME BY SASSUOLO

AC Milan suffered a big dent to their quest to win the Italian Serie A this seasonafter they were beaten at home by Sassuolo. The Rossoneri missed out on the chance to secure the summit on the league table after the failure to get a result at home to Sassuolo despite taking the lead.

Milan began the latest round of Italian Serie A games in second place with 32 points from 13 matches. They had the same number of points with league leaders Napoli with an inferior goal difference.

AC Milan were in action before Napoli on Sunday as far as the newest set of league games in the Italian top flight is concerned and they had the chance to move ahead of the leaders with a result. Milan would have moved one point ahead of Napoli with an home draw with Sassuoloand three points ahead of the Luciano Spalletti-led team with an home win at the expense of Sassuolo. In the end, they were stunned 3-1by Sassuolo and even finished the game with ten men due to the red card given to skipper Alessio Romagnoli for a professional foul on 77 minutes.

Italian defender Romagnoli gave AC Milan the lead midway into the first half via a header from a corner kick. Sassuolo were unlucky to go behind as they had been the better team in the opening exchanges and they trailed for just three minutes before star striker Gianluca Scamacca produced an excellent finish to draw level for the visitors.

Sassuolo never looked back after the Scamacca strike as they scored two more goals either side of the interval to secure an impressive win. Milan defender Simon Kjaer put through his own net on 33 minutes for Sassuolo to take the lead for the first time in the game before Italian international Domenico Berardi wrapped up the points with the third Sassuolo goal midway into the second half.

Napoli played shortly after the Rossoneri game on Sunday and they were able to move three points clear of AC Milan thanks to the 4-0 thumping of Lazio at home.

Radamel Falcao honoured by AC Milan transfer link

Radamel Falcao has said that he is honoured to be linked with a club of AC Milan’s calibre, though he is currently only focused on his job with AS Monaco and Colombia. In a recent interview with Premium Sport, the 32-year-old said: “I read and heard of Milan interest, so it is an honour that a club like that is tracking me. I follow Italian football and know that Milan are the second club in the world in terms of Champions League titles, but at the moment I am under contract with Monaco and am focused only on Monaco and Colombia. But it’s obvious that I like Italy and Italian football.”

The Rossoneri are understood to be eyeing a new midfielder, winger and a striker for the summer transfer window and they were surely be buoyed by the comments from Falcao. Nevertheless, the club are currently in UEFA trouble after their breach of the Financial Fair Play regulations and any penalties levied could hamper their chances of spending on fresh recruits without offloading a few.

Milan spent close to £200m on 11 separate signings during the previous summer transfer window and the move was purely made in an attempt to propel the side into the Champions League. However, the club struggled to come anywhere close to the top-four of the Serie A and they eventually ended the campaign in sixth with an eight-point to the Champions League spots.

As such, Milan will once again ply their trade in the group stage of the Europa League, though they could be stripped off their European place after breaching the Financial Fair Play regulations. UEFA are expected to make a decision on Milan’s European involvement during the month of June and their possible exclusion could be regarded as a huge blow in their pursuit of top quality players.

Rodriguez had been long linked with a switch away from the Volkswagen Arena with Premier League club Arsenal have previously approached for his signature. However, despite this, the left-sided defender has opted to pursue a fresh challenge with the Rossoneri, who are now under the ownership of a Chinese consortium.

The fallen Serie A giants barely managed to qualify for Europa League football with a seventh place finish last season, but they will be looking to better their results next term with UEFA having announced Italy with four places for Champions League qualification.

Rodriguez was initially expected to secure Milan move as early as last month, but Wolfsburg’s relegation playoff meant that the Swiss remained committed until his club maintained their top-flight status. Wolfsburg played a huge role in shaping the full-back’s career, and he was thankful for their efforts, via a statement, which read: “I would like to thank VfL Wolfsburg, all our fans, my team colleagues and all the employees for an unforgettable and very successful time,” Rodriguez told the Wolves’ official website.

“Together we have experienced and achieved a lot. I have developed here as a player, as well as a person, always felt very comfortable and won many friends. Nevertheless, it is now time for me to take the next step in my career. Milan is an international top club and a big new challenge for me.”

Rodriguez appeared in a total of 184 outings for Wolfsburg during his six-year stint where he scored 22 goals. He has also become a regular with Switzerlandduring the period with 43 caps to his name.

AC MILAN HUMBLED BY SAMPDORIA

Milan went into the game with some of their best legs on the sidelines due to injury. The result earned them their fourth straight loss in all competitions and 14 points behind log leaders Juventus.

Juventus are set to meet with Inter Milan in Derby d’Italia later, but they could as well run off with yet another Serie A title – a record sixth in a row.
When the game started in the first half the hosts should have opened the scoring but they lost their chances. Sampdoria also threw away opportunities but the half was largely a balanced one.

After the break, the Rossoneri could have scored but Gerard Deulofeu – who made his first start for the hosts – did not get the accuracy right on his rebound effort.

Aside that opportunity Milan threw away others until the visitors earned a penalty kick when Gabriel Paletta fouled Fabio Quagliarella in the box. Luis Muriel was too happy to convert the spot kick to give them the advantage.
Milan could have conceded another one but Filip Djuricic sent his shot wide.

Gianluca Lapadula had the opportunity to be the hero for Milan but he hit the ball from close range into the hands of the opposition goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano. They attempted to get a rebound but their efforts were blocked.

Despite having three players – Luca Antonelli, Mattia De Sciglio and Giacomo Bonaventura – on the sidelines, Milan would lose another as they head into the next game as the referee sent off Jose Sosa after he was booked twice in five minutes.

The club is set to be sold officially to the Chinese investors on the first week of March 2017, based on the announcement of the club’s board of directors. For now, their woes continue.
