In the first round of games in their group (Group B), Atletico Madrid were forced to a goalless draw at home by FC Porto, while Liverpool ended on the right side of a five-goal thriller against AC Milan. Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson was the recipient of the winner in the second half. His goal gave the Reds a 3-2 win over Milan. Croatian attacker Ante Rebic and the in-form Brahim Diaz were on target for AC Milan in the first half, while FikayoTomori (own goal) and Mohamed Salah were on target for Liverpool.

The win over AC Milan ensured that Liverpool became the top team in Group B. They were able to maintain that top spot thanks to the big win over Portuguese Super League side Porto. Liverpool thrashed Porto 5-1 with a brace each from Mohamed Salah and substitute Roberto Firmino, while Sadio Mane scored the other goal. Iranian striker Mehdi Taremiwas responsible for the lone Porto goal via a header in the second half.
Porto drop to third place after the defeat to Liverpool as thePortugueseteam has one point after two games. They are ahead of AC Milan who have zero point on the back of the loss to Atletico Madrid.
AC Milan were in control of the game with Atletico Madrid until the sending off involving Franck Kessie. The Ivorian midfielder was given a red card after two yellow cards. Rafael Leao had given Milan a 20th lead before things fell apart. Luis Suarez and substitute Antoine Griezmann were the goalscorers for Atletico Madrid in Milan.
