Switzerland international Ricardo Rodriguez has become AC Milan's third signing of the summer transfer window after they finalised an initial £13m package with Wolfsburg.

The 24-year-old will link up with the likes of Mateo Musacchio and Franck Kessie at the San Siro outfit next season.

Rodriguez had been long linked with a switch away from the Volkswagen Arena with Premier League club Arsenal have previously approached for his signature. However, despite this, the left-sided defender has opted to pursue a fresh challenge with the Rossoneri, who are now under the ownership of a Chinese consortium.

The fallen Serie A giants barely managed to qualify for Europa League football with a seventh place finish last season, but they will be looking to better their results next term with UEFA having announced Italy with four places for Champions League qualification.

Rodriguez was initially expected to secure Milan move as early as last month, but Wolfsburg's relegation playoff meant that the Swiss remained committed until his club maintained their top-flight status. Wolfsburg played a huge role in shaping the full-back's career, and he was thankful for their efforts, via a statement, which read: "I would like to thank VfL Wolfsburg, all our fans, my team colleagues and all the employees for an unforgettable and very successful time," Rodriguez told the Wolves' official website.

"Together we have experienced and achieved a lot. I have developed here as a player, as well as a person, always felt very comfortable and won many friends. Nevertheless, it is now time for me to take the next step in my career. Milan is an international top club and a big new challenge for me."

Rodriguez appeared in a total of 184 outings for Wolfsburg during his six-year stint where he scored 22 goals. He has also become a regular with Switzerlandduring the period with 43 caps to his name.
